About Hughes Counseling
Welcome!
I’m so glad you’ve gathered the courage to begin your healing journey. We all go through seasons that feel heavy, confusing, or overwhelming, and it takes bravery to reach out for support. My role as a counselor is to walk alongside you with care, curiosity, and compassion as we work toward creating the quality of life you deserve.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Nonprofit Leadership, and went on to earn two graduate degrees: a Master’s and Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. This training, along with my hands-on experience, has shaped a deeply person-centered, trauma-informed approach to the work I do.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of individuals, including adolescents, adults, couples, and veterans. Much of my work focuses on supporting clients dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma histories, and relational challenges. I also have a special passion for working with couples, and I use the Gottman Method to help partners improve communication, rebuild trust, and deepen connection.
Whether you're here to process a recent change, manage ongoing emotional pain, or explore your identity and relationships more deeply—I’m here to support you.
My Approach
Therapy can feel intimidating, confusing, or overwhelming — but it doesn’t have to be. I take an inviting, reflective approach to people’s concerns and encourage you to learn more about the types of therapy I practice. My approach is derived from Reality Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and I also incorporate techniques from Client-Centered and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy. These are well-established, researched, and respected therapies.
Through our work together, I aim to help you:
Understand your emotions and patterns
Build practical skills for coping and self-care
Strengthen your boundaries and sense of self
Find clarity, calm, and confidence in your everyday life
Why Work With Me
Starting therapy is a big step — it takes courage and vulnerability. I’m here to make that process as supportive and approachable as possible. My goal is for you to leave each session feeling understood, seen, and equipped with tools to navigate life more effectively.
I understand that finances can sometimes be a barrier to pursuing therapy — I’ve been there too. To help make therapy accessible, I offer sliding scale options. My hope is that everyone seeking help can have the support they need.
Whether you’re facing stress, transitions, anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship challenges, I’m committed to walking alongside you as you discover clarity, growth, and resilience.
